So I looked on Yarnspirations for the Bernat pet yarn and it says that it's sold exclusively at Michael's. When I went to Michael's website, they are on clearance with all but one color being out of stock. What other type of yarn would you recommend for this pattern?

I would use regular Bernat Blanket Yarn instead. Seems like the crocheters or knitters didn't prefer this yarn as it most likely is discontinued.
